In the meantime, the 33-yard McCardell is running better than ever, making more vertical plays and getting the ball into the end zone with more frequency than at any time in his 12-year career.
McCardell has seven touchdowns in 10 games and, if that doesnt sound like much, it projects to 11 for a full season and is already a career high. Since coming to Tampa Bay in 2002, he has averaged a touchdown catch every 8.5 receptions.
In his 10 seasons previous to that, his career average was one touchdown catch every 15.2 receptions, and secondaries usually viewed him only as a possession guy, an intermediate-area playmaker.
