What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

First and foremost, it appears his departure didnt come as much of a surprise to teammates.

According to Associated Press sports writer Fred Goodall, when Johnson spouted, some of his teammates listened and others tuned him out.

"Me being a veteran, I can let one thing go in one ear and out the other. Some people cant," Keenan McCardell said.

"Some people need to vent their emotions. When youre losing, you cant do that. ... I really think he just needed to get some things off his chest."

So, McCardell, like many of the other Buccaneers, were only mildly surprised when the Super Bowl champions decided Tuesday to deactivate Johnson for the remainder of the season.

"I dont want to make it seem like it was a distraction. It wasnt like he was around here being a jerk all the time," safety John Lynch said. "Thats not his personality. He was here -- he showed up -- he was working. But it just was clear that he didnt want to be here. That affects the karma in the locker room. That affects everything."

"Obviously, people are going to have their opinions about it, but at this point it doesnt matter," linebacker Derrick Brooks said. "Youve got to get your focus back on the field and worry about the things that are important to this football team and that is preparing to get a win."

Johnson was unhappy with his role in head coach Jon Grudens offense
