hamstring injury did not improve Friday and he will not play Sunday against Detroit and probably not in the Nov. 30 game at St. Louis.
He will be replaced by rookie Nate Burleson in the lineup. Kelly Campbell will also get some playing time.
Bates missed nearly all of five games because of foot and hamstring injuries. The hamstring injury has continued to hamper Bates running. According to Indianapolis Star News staff writer Mike Chappell, as long as Marvin Harrison doesnt experience a setback with his right hamstring before game time, the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver will be available for work against the Bills.
"I was out there playing around and I felt good," Harrison said after going through Fridays workout. "I just dont want to do anything stupid to re-injure it. Right now it feels OK.
"Game day, weve got to see what happens."
Asked if his availability will be a game-time decision, Harrison replied, "Not even that. I might decide (today). Ive got a little time to (weigh) my options."
Harrison missed Sundays win over the New York Jets after suffering a Grade 1 strain to his right hamstring during the second quarter of the Colts loss at Jacksonville on Nov. 9. He gradually increased his workout regimen before attacking his first full-scale practice on Friday.
Head coach Tony Dungy liked what he saw from Harrison, who leads the Colts with 56 receptions, 777 yards and seven touchdowns.
"He did fine," Dungy said. "If he comes in (today) and doesnt have any side effects, there is a good chance hell play on Sunday."
What remains is to determine how heavy a workload to assign Harrison on Sunday. The Colts, noted Dungy, "will definitely have a play limit on him.
