Marot, Peyton Manning logs long hours, studying game tapes, designing plays, working out.
Even in his finest season, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback knows theres always more to learn and room to improve.
"When you study the tape, you see something. Those are the fun things about the game," Manning said. "The time I spend watching tape -- it pays off."
Apparently so.
His touchdown passes are up, interceptions down, and hes closing in on career highs for completions and yards.
"Hes making the right decisions, not forcing the ball," wide receiver Troy Walters said. "Hes just doing everything right."
Thats a major reason that Indianapolis is tied with Tennessee for the AFC South lead entering Sundays game at Buffalo.
The Colts look like a lock to make their fourth playoff appearance in five years, something the franchise last achieved from 1964-68.
And Manning could wind up being the NFLs MVP, an honor that hasnt gone to a Colts player since 1976, when Bert Jones was the quarterback and the team played in Baltimore.
Manning has more attempts (351) and completions (239) than anyone in the AFC, and his league-leading 68.1 completion percentage is not far off the NFL record of 70.55 percent.
He leads the league with 2,876 yards passing, and his 19 TD tosses are tied for the most with Tampa Bays Brad Johnson.
Manning attributes his success to relentless preparation.
"A lot of times, Ill be watching tape, and something just pops out, like against Miami," Manning said. "Ill say, If I can fake it this way, I can throw it to Troy for a touchdown."
Mannings late-night film sessions have helped him become even better. He already has the second most wins in franchise history and is one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the league because of his ability to read defenses and change plays.
