The last time two first-year teammates made a run at the mark was 1995, when Oilers tailback Rodney Thomas rushed for 947 yards and receiver Chris Sanders had 823 yards receiving.
Houstons twosomes impact, bolstered by a revamped offensive line, is hard to ignore. The Texans offense, ranked last in several categories in 2003, has 659 more yards and 36 more points than at this point a season ago. Its managed that despite an injury-racked defense that has been porous.
More striking is Capers tabulation of "big plays," which he considers a pass of 25 or more yards or a run of 15-plus. Davis and Johnson have most of the Texans 34 "big plays," compared to the Texans 25 in all of 2002.
Davis said hell be satisfied if the offensive rookie of the year honor comes to Houston, regardless of whether it goes to him or his teammate five lockers down.
"It really doesnt matter. As long as its a Texan, Ill be pleased with it," said Davis, who also has 34 catches.

"I do think about (the award)," Davis said. "Thats why I practice, work hard, push myself and try to make things happen in a game."

David Carr threw some passes with his sprained right shoulder in practice Thursday and could be available as the Texans emergency quarterback against the Patriots.
"I think its encouraging," Capers said. "These types of injuries, you never know how fast they are going to respond."
Carr was injured late in the first quarter of last Sundays win over Buffalo.
Carr was ruled out as a starter Sunday by Capers.
Tony Banks is assured of starting, and Dave Ragone will serve as backup.
