Eagles had every reason to believe Pinkston would make plays this season. In fact, they had every reason to believe he would make big plays, too.
After the Eagles made him a second-round selection in 2000, he eased into head coach Andy Reids version of the West Coast offense with 10 catches for 181 yards as a rookie. In his second season, he became the No. 2 receiver to James Thrash and caught 42 passes for 586 yards and four touchdowns.
A year ago, he surpassed Thrash as the teams top receiver and caught 60 passes for 798 yards and seven touchdowns.
Comparisons were made to Indianapolis wide receiver Marvin Harrison, who, like Pinkston, is slightly built. Harrisons third season with the Colts was almost identical to Pinkstons third season with the Eagles. In fact, Pinkston was a little more productive, making one more catch for 22 more yards and the same number of touchdowns. Pinkston also had at least one catch of 21 yards or more in each of the Eagles final 10 games last season, including the two playoff games.
Thats why so many people thought Pinkstons fourth season would mirror Harrisons fourth year - the 2000 season - in which the Colts receiver caught 115 passes for 1,663 yards and 12 touchdowns. Harrison has been considered among the NFLs best receivers ever since; he has 49 receptions this season.

Seven games into his fourth season, his numbers are way down. A year ago at this same juncture, Pinkston had 28 catches for 293 yards and three touchdowns. As the team started preparing for todays game against the Atlanta Falcons earlier this week, Pinkston had 16 catches for 153 yards and no touchdowns.
His game-opening 27-yard catch against Buffalo in the Eagles third game is his only reception of more than 20 yards. In three games, he did not have more than 20 yards total.
