Head coach Mike Sherman said Wednesday theres been no change in the X-rays on Favres thumb even after he banged it on guard Mike Wahles helmet Sunday at Tampa Bay.
"He is not re-injuring the thumb," Sherman said. "He hurts the thumb and its painful. But as far as the injury is concerned, its the same injury. Thats not changing."
Sherman said he anticipates it will be another four weeks before Favres thumb is healed.
Favre broke the thumb at St. Louis on Oct. 19, and hes clearly tired of talking about it.
"Im not a doctor, it looks the same as last week," he said. "I dont know if it was going to change much anyway now that I got it hit. It doesnt really feel any different. Its still sore. But it was OK."
Favre said he hasnt talked to team doctor Patrick McKenzie about the injury since he first learned of the fracture Oct. 20.
"I figured, heck if I can play, who cares? He looked at X-rays today and I didnt even talk to him about it because I figured Im fine," Favre said.
Favre declined to have an operation to insert a pin that would have sidelined him for several weeks and ended his consecutive starts streak, which now stands at 200, counting playoffs, an NFL record for a quarterback.
"At some point, its got to start calcifying and he said it may heal like it looks on the screen, which would be a result of not actually going in and putting it right back to where it originally was (through surgery)," Favre said. "But that doesnt mean you cant function.
"Obviously, we would have had surgery if I couldnt function without having it back in the actual place."
Favre played great against the Rams after breaking on the teams first series and then returned after the bye week to throw for three touchdowns at Minnesota.
But he fumbled three times in rainy weather two weeks ago in a loss
