In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Smith was injured Oct. 5 in what turned out to be an awful return to Dallas to face the Cowboys. In 12 seasons in Dallas, Smith broke the NFL record for yards rushing, but he had minus-1 yard in six attempts in his return before he was hurt.

Convinced he still had what it takes at age 34, Smith signed a two-year contract with Arizona, and it has been a rocky season for him and the team. He rushed for 192 yards in 65 carries before he was injured, averaging three yards per attempt.

The hard-running, much younger Shipp has had two big games in Smiths absence. He became the first Cardinal back to have consecutive 100-yard games with a career-best 165 yards in 35 carries against San Francisco and 141 yards in 29 carries against Cincinnati, both Arizona victories.

But the work took its toll. He carried 22 times for 63 yards and caught six passes for 40 yards in the loss at Pittsburgh two weeks ago, giving him 86 carries in three games.

His biggest injury problem, he said, is ruptured bursa sacs in both arms.

"It hurts pretty bad," said Shipp, who is listed as probable for Sundays game. "If you touch it right now, I might scream, but game days a different story. ..."
