Falcons trainer Ron Medlin and team orthopedist Andrew Bishop both said that Vick did not sustain additional damage to the injured area.
Vick was limping for a while after the injury. And when he threw some passes during the afternoon in work away from the teams practice, Vick was not striding into his throws in a normal fashion.
Asked if Vick did not practice because he couldnt, or if it was a precautionary move, head coach Dan Reeves said, "Im sure its because he cant. I dont know; I hadnt talked to [Medlin]. He was going to practice if he could, and apparently he cant."
Vick has said that he will always wear an ankle brace in future practices and games, but did not have a brace on during the walk-through, nor was his ankle taped for extra support, according to team officials. Few players bother to tape their ankles for walk-throughs, which are like half-speed practices without contact.
At the time, Vick was running the scout team, which is generally comprised of second-string players in order to give the first- and second-string defenses a look at the upcoming opponents plays.
Neither Reeves nor Vick said who stepped on Vicks foot. "I forgot to get his number," Reeves said. "He was speeding. It was at the end of the work with the [starting] defense."
Vick said, "I dont know. Ill have to go back and watch the film. All I know is I caught it up in there pretty good. It was my first bit of contact, and I didnt anticipate my first piece of contact on it. It happened early, and it wasnt a good feeling. So I can imagine what its going to feel like if I take a hit on it."
