What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

ESPN.com insider Len Pasquarelli noted on Friday that at least three teams, one of them the Cowboys, are studying CFL quarterback Ricky Ray, arguably the leagues premier player and a guy who is slated for free agency at the end of the season. ...

In an article published Monday, Dallas Morning News beat man Jean-Jacques Taylor advised readers that not only is Troy Hambrick coming up short when it comes to providing big plays, hes been dropped for a loss or tackled for no gain more than 20 times.

Taylor went on to suggest that coaches are likely to simplify the schemes and do more man-to-man blocking to reduce the number of missed assignments that have contributed to Hambricks problems. Another issue is Hambricks lack of speed; he has only one run of more than 20 yards.

Which probably explains the arrival of veteran Adrian Murrell (which needless to say, wasnt particularly well-received by Hambrick), who once hes in game shape, could provide the team with a shiftier alternative to the more bruising style Hambrick seems to be limited to this season.

For what its worth, the Sports XChange reported earlier this week that Murrell could play tomorrow, but I suspect if he does, itll be in a very limited role.

Whatever the case, it certainly looks like running back will be a position of need heading into the offseason.

In an article published Thursday, SportsLine.com senior writer Pete Prisco noted that after watching him against the Bucs, its quite apparent Hambrick isnt the
