24 times -- once for every 10 dropbacks -- for 185 yards. And in four of those games, all losses, hes failed to complete a pass longer than 21 yards.
Bledsoe sounded frustrated when discussing the inability of the offense to make teams pay for blitzing.
"It falls on my shoulders and the shoulders of us as an offense to execute those plays under adverse conditions," Bledsoe said. "We actually had some stuff last week."
Unfortunately, except for an 18-yard screen pass to Sammy Morris, the plays werent properly executed against Dallas.
Missed blocks, poorly thrown passes, and poorly run routes have all contributed to the Bills troubles. And it has led opponents to continue taking risks by sending more players than Buffalo can block.
"The league works in trends and it looks like, especially against us, that its trending toward trying to come after you with the max blitz more often," Bledsoe said. "If you hit one play against them, it chases them right out of that blitz. But until you hit that one play, theyre going to keep coming."
Buffalo was relatively effective in counteracting the blitz last season. It helped that the Bills had a speedy deep threat in Peerless Price, who now plays for Atlanta.
Josh Reed and Bobby Shaw, Buffalos second and third receivers this season, dont have Prices breakout speed, while Eric Moulds has been slowed by a groin injury for more than a month.
And neither Reed nor Shaw has been able to pick up the slack.
Reed caught a total of 12 passes against Kansas City and Dallas, but for just 89 yards (7.4 average) with a long of 12. Shaw has been even more disappointing with just four catches for 22 yards (5.5) with a long of seven.
"We have to go with what we have," Reed said. "We cant wait to get Eric back out there at 100 percent. It has to be frustrating for him. He wants to be out there and he knows we need him. You want him completely healthy so he can do the stuff he does best, but it may not happen (this season)."
