What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

Hasselbeck (sore shoulder) and Shaun Alexander (sprained ankle) returned to practice Thursday after missing Wednesdays session. Both had been held out of practice for extra rest.

Other notes of interest. ...

The big story in Seattle this week still involves Darrell Jackson and how hes gone from being one of the most dependable receivers in the NFL to dropping 12 passes in nine games?

Thats right, the man the Seahawks took in the third round of the 2000 draft has been the most productive receiver in that class. However, his 12 drops this season are more than five teams have total.

Jackson will continue to start against Detroit, and Holmgren will continue to call plays his direction to help him work his way out of the problem.

"I had a lot of confidence in him, and I still do," Holmgren said. "I still believe hes going to be very important to us down the stretch and were going to ride it out."

When asked if Jackson had problems going over the middle after suffering a concussion last year against the Dallas Cowboys, the Seahawks pointed to the location of the drops, most coming along the sideline.

"Ill tell you one thing," Koren Robinson said, "Darrell is not a coward. Hes not scared."

Whatever the problem is, with just four receivers on the active roster, Holmgren doesnt have many options but to keep playing Jackson as the team plays host to the Lions.

Which might explain the coachs optimism.

"Theres not a question in my mind, honestly, that Darrell will not snap out of this," Holmgren said. ...

Although Alexander owners shouldnt feel much impact, Holmgren will continue working backup Maurice Morris into the mix over the remainder of the season.

Morris has rushed 22 times for 187 yards this season, an average of 8.5 yards per carry. Alexander has at least 20 carries in six straight games.

"Down the stretch here, [Morris] might get some more touches," Holmgren said. "Its a balancing act that you have to do sometimes when you have a couple good players at a position.
