','11/16/2003','1:00:00 AM','Sunday',588 6158,28,11,'Holmgren Pleased As Punch With Hasselbecks Play...','In an article published early Saturday, Seattle Times staff reporter Jose Miguel Romero reported that head coach Mike Holmgren believes Matt Hasselbeck is playing as well as he did at the end of last season. And even though the whopping numbers arent quite what they were as the Seahawks ended 2002 as the NFLs hottest offense, thats saying something.
"I think his decision-making is every bit as good," Holmgren said. "Now, we played those games (the final six of 2002) differently. We were a little more wide open. And the other part of that was that we were making plays."
The Seahawks opened up the offense late in the season when it became clear they were destined to finish out of the playoff chase. The results were staggering: Hasselbeck set club records for completions and attempts in a game, as well as yards in a game (449), and the Seahawks won four of their last six, averaging 29 points.
But the big plays havent been as plentiful in 2003, and Holmgren indicated this week the time might have come to go for such plays more frequently. It could happen tomorrow against Detroit.
"My hope is that we get it going down the stretch that way," Holmgren said. "But as far as decision-making, and as far as being efficient and effective, I think Matts doing a great job."
Hasselbeck seeks more offensive consistency -- long scoring drives -- and wants the big plays just as bad.
"We talked this week about how [Holmgren] wants to play the game, and Im on board," Hasselbeck said. "Im ready to play the game that way, and well see what happens. ..."
