What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

"When the defense allows you to take advantage of a certain player and use him in a certain area, thats what you do."

So Conway can expect to find himself split wide, used inside on slants and lined up in Chrebets favorite third-down place -- the slot. "Well do some different things with him," Canales said. "Thatll help. He likes running inside [patterns]. Hes done it before. Last week, he took some hits and he made some big plays. No doubt that gave him some confidence."

With his confidence restored, Conway is anxious to turn his season around. Entering this year, he had caught 510 passes, including 47 for touchdowns and 24 for more than 40 yards. But he has caught only 26 passes for 360 yards this year and has not caught a single touchdown pass.

"Ill get moved around and that will present more opportunities for me," Conway said. "Im feeling more comfortable. Im more relaxed. My first year in college [at USC] and my first year in San Diego, I didnt have good years. I dont want to wait until next year here."

In a few related notes. ...

Edwards does not expect newly-signed receiver Kevin Lockett, to play against Indianapolis.

Jacksonville released Lockett on the final day of cuts in training camp. But he is entering his seventh season in the league after Kansas City took him in the second round in 1997.

He is familiar with the offense because he was with the Chiefs when Jets offensive coordinator Paul Hackett was with the team in the same capacity, and also worked with assistant coach Jimmy Raye in Kansas City and Washington.

Lockett primarily has played the inside receiver spot.

"Thats pretty much what Ive done the entire six years of my career. I played the slot and did pretty good on third downs," Lockett said. "Its what Ive always done. Its unfortunate what happened with Wayne, but now Im in a situation where I hopefully can help improve this offense and make plays."

And finally. ...

Edwards admitted Thursday the Jets would be interested in going after a big receiver in the offseason.
