What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

selected by the Saints with the 23rd pick of the first round in the 2001 NFL draft. Skeptics questioned his durability, intensity and ability to lead.

Since replacing Ricky Williams in the starting lineup in 2002, McAllister has silenced those critics. Last season he rushed for an NFC-best 1,388 yards and started in his first Pro Bowl.

This season he trails only Green Bays Ahman Green (1,063) and Carolinas Stephen Davis (992) for the NFC rushing lead. McAllister also has 33 receptions for 220 yards and ranks second in the NFC in total yards from scrimmage with 1,091.

"The locker room is the most important room in the whole building, for any organization, and Deuce is a man who commands a lot of respect in that room," McCarthy said. "Thats a credit to him as a person and to him as a professional.

"As far as his durability, he proved everybody wrong last year when he played on a bad ankle week in and week out and still was a productive player for us down the stretch."

Since the start of the 2002 season, McAllister has more 100-yard rushing games than any other NFL running back. He has reached 100 yards 14 times (eight last season) in 24 games. Hes come close three other times, reaching 99 twice and 96 once.

Throw out the Tennessee game in Game 3, when McAllister rushed for a career-low 8 yards on 11 carries, and he likely would be in a position to break George Rogers single-season rushing mark of 1,674 yards in 1981.

McAllister is on pace to rush for 1,548 yards.

"I havent had that big game yet," McAllister said. "I havent had that 160-, 170-, 200-yard game. As long as we can be consistent around 115 or 120 a game, then thats fine. But Im still looking for that big game.

"Obviously you want to go out there and get 100 each week. Thats the benchmark for a running back, but the most important thing is the W."

So how good can McAllister be?

"Hes one of the great backs in the league," Reeves said. "He reminds me of Marcus Allen, only with more speed."

"He can be
