Fellow wideout Jimmy Smith was happy about the signing.
Smith has had trouble getting open since the Jaguars parted with Keenan McCardell after the 2001 season. Smith (26 receptions) and Troy Edwards (20) are the two most productive receivers on the team, each despite missing all of September.
"Hes a playmaker and every team can always use another playmaker," Smith said of Johnson. "Hes a hot commodity right now, so Im glad hes here."

In Smith, Johnson and Edwards, they have three decent receivers, even if none of them possesses blazing speed.
The Jaguars also have high hopes for rookie free agent Cortez Hankton, who is starting to play more and more. He can run.
By acquiring Johnson, the Jaguars might not be so quick to try to get a receiver next spring in free agency, which would mean no Terrell Owens if he is unrestricted.
