What is Fantasy Football

In its simplest form, the idea of fantasy sports is no different than any other game or contest that involves testing your knowledge against a group of friends. Fantasy sports was created over 20 years ago when a group of baseball fans took the bragging rights of — "I know more about the game than you do" — to a game level by creating rules and scoring systems to define what "best" was.

Fantasy football has become the most popular of all fantasy sports in recent years, mostly because it is one of the easier fantasy games to play. A group of friends — known as team "owners" — get together at the beginning of the football season and select a roster of NFL players with the idea of putting together the team that puts up the best statistics each week. Fantasy football contests can be found in many places on the web. They range from contests and leagues that are a total waste of time to some of the most challenging you can find.

6120,2,11,'Vick Sore, But Makes It Through Another Practice...','According to Associated Press sports writer George Henry, a day after practicing for the first time in two months, Mike Vick regained some lost confidence.

Vick said Thursday his objective is to manage his pain while convincing himself hes still effective enough to help his team reverse the course of a 2-7 season.

"Im just hoping and praying its 100 percent mentally and going about in that way," he said. "I think if I think about it in that way, then I wont worry about it. I think it will be 100 percent, really."

Vick, who said his right ankle and Achilles tendon wont heal fully for several more months, worked with the scout team for the second straight day as the Falcons prepared to visit New Orleans this weekend.

Out since breaking his right leg in an Aug. 16 preseason game, Vick finally was able to practice Wednesday.

"It was the same soreness every day and day out. I figured its not going to get any better, so I might as well go out and practice on it," said Vick, who last year set four NFL records for rushing by a quarterback and led the Falcons to the second round of the playoffs.

There is no chance Vick will play against the Saints, who beat Atlanta 45-17 and racked up 509 yards of total offense three weeks ago. He declined to predict when he will take snaps with the first team, but he hasnt ruled out making his regular-season debut next week against Tennessee.

The Falcons practiced indoors and wore full pads Thursday. Players dressed in shells the day before.

"I did enough so that I can go out there and bear with the pain and not try to overdo it," Vick said. "I didnt try to hold back anything. I was out there just trying to get into a rhythm and bear with the pain and hopefully try to work some of the soreness out. Theyre telling me my ankle wont be 100 percent, really, until next year, so Im just going to go out there and try to bear with the pain."

Kurt Kittner will make his fourth career start Sunday.','11/14/2003','1:15:00 AM','Friday',551
