appearances, he has 18 catches for 368 yards.
"Its a good time to see what type of person you are, what youre made out of - character-wise and confidence-wise," he said.
This is the roughest stretch Burress has endured since his disappointing rookie season three years ago.
He has three one-catch games in his past five starts and has caught only two touchdown passes in the past 16 regular-season games, the equivalent of a full season.
His frustration boiled over recently, in the form of complaints about officiating and his role in the offense.
In the past two games, Burress has combined for nearly as many drops (four) as catches (six), including one on a low, hard pass in the end zone Sunday against Arizona.
"I should have come up with it," he said. "Those are plays I can make. Ive made them before."
Two weeks ago, Burress dropped a pass at the 5-yard line against Seattle. He was injured that day diving for a pass in the end zone and only practiced one day last week.
Burress described the injury as a pulled deltoid. After he practiced yesterday, he said he was getting it re-evaluated to make sure "its nothing really serious."
Last season, Burress set career highs in receptions (78), yards (1,325) and touchdowns (seven). He is on pace this season for 62 catches, 919 yards and two TDs.
The teams other starting receiver, Hines Ward, is on pace for more than 100 catches, 1,200 yards and 14 TDs.
Although his yards-per-catch average (14.8) remains impressive, Burress rarely makes yards after a catch. Among the 50 leading pass catchers in the NFL, he ranks 47th in yards-after-the-catch, with only 96 on his 35 receptions.
Its virtually unheard of to see Burress in full stride on a crossing pattern, reeling in a pass and busting a big gain.
Tommy Maddox said crossing routes have been hard to come by, because most teams are running a linebacker down the middle of the field.
Wide receivers coach Kenny Jackson insists that Burress can help the Steelers even when he isnt catching the ball.
