According to Arizona Republic beat man Kent Somers, they didnt count, but Neil Rackers made five field goals in practice Wednesday and drew a standing ovation from his new Cardinals teammates.
Of course, there is no place to sit at practice, so any ovation is a standing one.
"Rackers thought he was coming to kick in Arizona in a nice climate, and he had a rainstorm out there," McGinnis said. "Hes got good distance, a strong leg, and I want some consistency out of that position."
Rackers takes over for Tim Duncan, who was cut Monday.
Bill Gramatica, the regular kicker, will miss his sixth game Sunday in Cleveland, and its questionable if he will make it back this season because of back pain.
Cincinnati cut Rackers in September after three seasons there. He struggled his first two years in Cincinnati, making 19 of 39 field-goal tries, and had to deal with the bad turf at Paul Brown Stadium.
Last year, however, he made 15 of 18 field-goal attempts. He was cut before this season after suffering torn cartilage in his left knee. ...
Also according to Somers, offensive coordinator Jerry Sullivan denied reports that he was sharing play-calling duties with quarterbacks coach Geep Chryst.
Sullivan said he asks for and receives input from all of his offensive coaches, but the final call is his.
"If we have a third down and 1 or 2, Ill ask (offensive line coach) Pete Hoener, Hey what do you like here? " Sullivan said. "Geep and I are always talking about plays were going to run in terms of the passing game. But Im calling them. ..."
