In Jacksonville. ... Head coach Jack Del Rio isnt the only one taking note of Byron Leftwichs dramatic offseason progress.
Although Del Rio has been quick to praise the Jaguars second-year quarterback since the team began conditioning work in late March, Leftwichs teammates began to chime in this week.
According to Florida Times-Union beat man Bart Hubbuch, Fred Taylor is the latest veteran starter to express confidence in Leftwich after noting Leftwichs diligence in the film room, weight room and practice field the past two months.
"You have to like what you see," Taylor said on Wednesday after the second day of a three-day veterans camp. "He works, he studies, hes here early every single day. The guy deserves to get better and will get better."
Based primarily on what he saw of Leftwich as a rookie last season and reports of his offseason progress, Sports Illustrated insider Peter King recently predicted the Jaguars will face Seattle in the Super Bowl in February in Jacksonville.
Taylor said Kings prediction isnt outlandish, based on Leftwichs progress.
"Byron is going to improve in a lot of areas," Taylor said. "Were a long ways off [from the season], but Im sure youre going to see the improvement. ..."
In Baltimore. ... According to his agent, Kordell Stewart said Wednesday that his client is ready to embrace a backup role with the Ravens as well as be a positive influence on second-year starter Kyle Boller.
Stewart, who was cut by the Chicago Bears in March, is the leading candidate to fill in for the injured Anthony Wright as the Ravens No. 2 quarterback.
That added experience around Boller could help his growth process.
