The Giants will not work out next Wednesday and Thursday. Players will not be permitted to come to Giants Stadium on those days, but they will be paid for the sessions.
Offseason workouts will resume on June 1.
"We did not intentionally violate any rules," Coughlin said in a statement released by the Giants. "The issues that have been brought to our attention will be corrected. ..."
Also in New York. ... The Giants acquired quarterback Kurt Kittner off the waiver wire and signed wide receiver James McKnight as a free agent on Thursday.
Kittner was released by the Falcons last month. Cincinnati acquired him on waivers and released him May 10.
McKnight, who played for the Miami Dolphins last season and scored on a 68-yard run against New York, was among five free agents signed. The 11-year veteran has 222 career catches.
The team also signed journeyman receiver JaJuan Dawson. ...
In New England. ... Patriots receiver Bethel Johnson underwent stomach surgery this week at Massachusetts General Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
In an article published Thursday, Boston Herald beat man Michael Felger reported that a team spokesman confirmed the surgery but would not specify the nature of the procedure. However, a source told Felger it was related to the intestinal problems the second-year wideout experienced in college.
Johnson missed eight games with Texas A&M in 2001 after suffering a ruptured spleen. Johnson later had surgery to have his spleen removed. In the summer of 2002, Johnson had surgery to remove an intestinal obstruction.
Sources told Felger Johnson recently had an unspecified attack and was rushed to the hospital by his girlfriend. Had he not immediately sought help, the situation could have been dire.
Its not known how long Johnsons recovery time will be, but he certainly wont participate in the Patriots full-squad passing camp beginning next week or the mandatory
