How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

Team spokesman Todd Stewart said Friday that Couch had filed the grievance through the National Football League Players Association earlier this week.

Couch had been working out at the teams training facility until Garcia was signed. Soon after, the Browns told Couch he was no longer welcome.

Before mini-camp, the Browns went so far as to clean out Couchs locker and remove his nameplate.

On Thursday, head coach Butch Davis said he has no plans to release Couch after June 1. Davis also said there was still a possibility Couch could return as a backup.

That seems to be unlikely, however, since Couchs contract is for $7.6 million this season and $8 million in 2005.

Agent Tom Condon has had talks with the Green Bay Packers about Couch becoming Brett Favres backup but has so far been unable to work out a deal. ...

Also in Cleveland. ... Davis and Dennis Northcutt have apparently moved past their hard feelings towards each other and now seems intent on retaining the teams leading receiver from 2003.

In an interview with the NFL Networks Ken Norton, Davis said, "We want to try to get a contract done thatll pay him significantly and make him a significant part of our offense the next three years. He brings an awful lot of excitement to the football team.

"Hes an excellent punt returner and has provided a tremendous amount of third-down opportunities for this football team and I think he can do even more.

"Andre Davis and Quincy Morgan, who were starters last
