How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

In Chicago. ... After missing most of the last two mini-camps with a strained left quad, second-year wide receiver Bobby Wade returned to the practice field Monday when the Bears conducted the first of 14 "Organized Team Activities."

"I was rusty," Wade told chicagobears.com staff writer Larry Mayer. "It was a rough practice today. But just the fact of being here and knowing that my leg is getting stronger, everything is going well with that. Weve got 13 more of these to get better, so hopefully I can catch up and be back on track, which Im sure I will."

Wade, who had 12 receptions for 137 yards last season as a rookie, was injured in the Bears first mini-camp under new head coach Lovie Smith in March. The 2003 fifth-round pick participated in one practice in the second mini-camp and was held out entirely in the third and final camp after the draft.

Though the sessions are voluntary, Wade isnt taking anything for granted.

"Its mandatory, at least from my standpoint," he said. "Even with the voluntary mini-camps, its still important to be around and show up, especially when you have all new coaches and a new offense going in. I think everybodys pretty much taking that mandatory approach to it."','05/18/2004','14:50','Tuesday'5275,2004,1101 6656,15,75,'Roundup: Holmes, Gonzalez, McCardell Missing Time & More','According to Kansas City Star beat man Adam Teicher, Priest Holmes was one of the few absentees Tuesday from the Chiefs first off-season practice.

Holmes, an occasional participant in the conditioning portion of the off-season workout program, was in Texas dealing with family obligations. Head coach Dick Vermeil said Holmes father just returned to the United States from military service in Iraq.

Attendance for practice is voluntary, but Vermeil said he expected Holmes in Kansas City soon. The Chiefs have three more practices this week, four next week and a mandatory
