How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

"He is a future Hall of Famer and I will still be watching him perform, but will now be critiquing him as a TV personality rather than as a player."

"Shannon Sharpe has a great opportunity in television and I know he will be a great success because of his intelligence, attitude, preparation and perseverance," head coach Mike Shanahan said. "He has always been outstanding on and off the football field, and hell be a great addition to CBS. I cannot thank him enough for being such a great leader for the Denver Broncos."

The Broncos have prepared themselves for the loss of Sharpe, adding free agent tight ends Byron Chamberlain (last Friday), Jed Weaver and O.J. Santiago and re-signing Patrick Hape. Also on the roster are Jeb Putzier and Mike Leach.

For what its worth. ... DenverBroncos.com staffer Andrew Mason suggested last Friday that Chamberlains arrival had nothing to do the potential change in Sharpes status.

"As we were looking at the position when we got out of mini-camp, we did some evaluation," general manager Ted Sundquist said. "[All offseason], weve been trying to strengthen the tight end position, not knowing what Shannon was going to do one way or the other, with the additions of O.J. Santiago and Jed Weaver, along with bringing Patrick Hape back. This is just one more step to make sure that we have the best group of tight ends that we can possibly have, especially since tight end means so much to the offense."

But with Sharpes about
