How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

I dont know, but it seemed like the best thing for everyone concerned was a clean break," Woy said.

Hambricks best game in four seasons for Dallas was 189 yards rushing in December at Washington. That was one of his five career 100-yard games, and the third-best game total in team history.

Hambrick had 1,896 yards and eight touchdowns on 473 carries with the Cowboys. He had 42 receptions for 260 yards.

Jones was only the fourth running back at Notre Dame with more than 3,000 career yards, but he started just 17 of his 45 games. His college career was disrupted when he missed 2002 because of academic problems, but he returned to run for 1,268 yards last season, including a school-record 262 against Pittsburgh.

According to Dallas Morning News beat man Jean-Jacques Taylor, Jones didnt catch a lot of passes at Notre Dame, but he showed nice hands at mini-camp. The team wants to use him in the passing game, especially on screens, to take advantage of his quickness, balance and moves in the open field. ...

In the meantime, Jones continues to downplay the inevitable comparisons to Smith.

As Associated Press sports writer Stephen Hawkins noted early this month, Jones is flattered to be mentioned along with Smith. But he also realizes his only NFL experience is a three-day rookie mini-camp.

"Anytime you can get compared to Emmitt Smith, one of the best running backs to ever play the game, its a huge compliment," Jones said. "I cant be like him or anything like that, so Im just going to go out and play how I play. Thats all I can do."

And thats all Parcells wants.

"Ill keep it in perspective for him if it looks like it is getting too far out of hand," Parcells said. "Hes not under any illusions about anything like that. He knows better."

Jones will accept one comparison to Smith: "Similarities in size, thats about it," said the 5-foot-10, 217-pounder.

Parcells said there are no expectations of Jones being the second-coming of Emmitt, though the rookie did wear No. 22 -- the same
