Or as Foerster, who spent the last two seasons as tight ends coach with the Indianapolis Colts, put it: "Weve got the thing rolling. Weve been working for three months very, very hard. The things were trying to accomplish are exactly the same. ..."
Getting back to what Wannstedts reference to "rest of the coaches," Ill remind you that Foerster was promoted over quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach Marc Trestman, as well as wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan -- two new offseason hires, both of whom have coordinator experience.
Wannstedt indicated that continuity among position coaches was a factor in his decision.
"At wide receiver and quarterback, we have had some new additions," Wannstedt said. "One of the problems we ran into last year, quite honestly, was when Mike Shula left in June and we didnt have a quarterbacks coach. ... We need to move our level of play up there."
Shula left the Dolphins last year to become Alabamas head coach.
During his tenure with the Colts, tight end Marcus Pollard totaled 83 receptions for 1,019 yards and nine touchdowns. Last season, rookie Dallas Clark was developing into one of the leagues top young tight ends as he caught 29 passes for 340 yards and one touchdown before an ankle injury caused him to miss the final quarter of the season.
Prior to joining the Indianapolis staff in 2002, Foerster served the previous six seasons (1996-01) as offensive line coach with Tampa Bay. Before that, he spent three seasons coaching the offensive line and tight ends under Dennis
