But according to St. Paul Pioneer Press staffer Jason Williams, team officials do not seem too concerned, and are optimistic that if Moss continues to rest as much as possible and takes good care of the foot, the plantar fasciitis that has hampered him since late last season could be healed by the time Minnesota opens training camp July 31.
"Hes got a real mild case of it right now," team trainer Chuck Barta said Friday after watching Moss perform in two practices during the first day of mini-camp. "Its getting better. Normally, (these types of injuries) just go away. ... But you dont want to push the envelope or else it becomes a problem."
And with Moss acknowledging hes experiencing "a little bit of soreness," the local media is wondering why the five-time Pro Bowl selection participating in mini-camp?
Well. ... Because he wanted to.
Head coach Mike Tice told reporters he asked Moss to sit out the three-day mini-camp, but "he thinks its important as the leader of the team that he shows that hes going to fight through it. And Im not going to question that. He is the leader of this football team."
Moss, who has never missed a regular-season or playoff game in his six-year NFL career, approached Tice as if this were the middle of October.
"I said, Am I playing the first game against Dallas?" said Moss, who was asked not to participate in a developmental camp earlier in the week, but did anyway. "He said, Youre [expletive deleted] right you are. I said, OK, then, well leave it at that."
Moss said he was eager to play after having "sat on my fat [expletive deleted]"
