How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

of their two sixth-round picks last year on Henson, betting he would have another disappointing season in the Yankees farm system and would decide to give up the $12 million remaining on his baseball deal and return to football.

General manager Charley Casserlys gambit paid off in early February when Henson did just that. The Cowboys were among 20 teams who sent representatives to Houston on Feb. 12 to watch an open workout in the Texans practice bubble, with assistant head coach Sean Payton leading a three-man contingent.

Henson had one stellar season at Michigan in 2000 and was projected to be a top draft pick in 2002 if he had another good year with the Wolverines. Instead, he signed with the Yankees as their third baseman of the future and left school.

The deal means Dallas has three former minor-league baseball players at the quarterback position. Starter Quincy Carter played in the Chicago Cubs organization in 1996, 97 and 98.

Dallas signed former Stanford quarterback Chad Hutchinson before the 2002 season after he gave up on a career with the St. Louis Cardinals.

In fact, Jones recently downplayed the notion of acquiring Henson for that very reason.

"Hes certainly an outstanding prospect," Jones said late last month. "We all recognize the uniqueness of his situation, the uniqueness of Houstons position. I have some experience with the Cowboys in working with a baseball-playing quarterback, some experience in working with trying to solve the issue of the rookie pool. ... Being able to work through that with Chad Hutchinson and got something done.

"But again, were going down that road of trying to get more solid at quarterback. (Hensons) a young guy. ... Ive gotten used to these 10 wins. Those five-win seasons didnt feel very good. ..."

For what its worth, Casserly -- admittedly not the most impartial of observers -- said that Hensons workout in Houston was better than any quarterback who performed at the annual NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. That included Ben Roethlisberger
