How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

As Pittsburgh Tribune-Review beat man Jerry DiPaola reported it: "Amos Zereoue, who committed the most heinous of sins by not justifying Steelers coach Bill Cowhers faith in him, was released Thursday -- only seven months after he became the teams starting running back."

Cowher officially named Zereoue the starting running back job after only two preseason games last year, but Zereoue responded by averaging 3.2 yards per carry and was benched after six games.

Zereoue, a record-setting runner at West Virginia, was the last of the Steelers three third-round picks in 1999. He never assumed a prominent role in the offense until 2001, when he averaged 5.4 yards per carry and scored three touchdowns in the playoffs.

Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert tried to trade Zereoue, but couldnt find the right deal.

"There was (interest)," he told DiPaola. "Teams had other options. They either signed their own players or theyre still looking at other players."
