In Cleveland. ... According to Akron Beacon Journal staff writer Patrick McManamon, Tim Couchs future is in the hands of his agent.
This after the Browns gave Tom Condon permission to work out a trade for his client, a source close to the situation told McManamon.
The team put one limit on the deal: Condon cannot work out a trade with an AFC North team, which rules out rumored destinations Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
Couchs departure was brought about by the signing of free-agent quarterback Jeff Garcia. That signing ended Couchs up-and-down five-year tenure in Cleveland.
The Browns clearly want something for Couch, the first overall pick in the 1999 draft.
The team can try to sell a trade by telling an interested team that acquiring him immediately would give him a chance to learn the new offense. The Browns problem is teams can try to wait out the team in hopes that Cleveland cuts Couch rather than carry his $9.2 million salary-cap figure.
And as McManamon noted, several teams might have started posturing to do just that, as they either announced or leaked that they were not interested in Couch.
In Dallas, owner Jerry Jones said on local radio that the Cowboys were not interested. San Diego has said privately it is not interested.
Radio stations in Chicago reported the Bears were interested, but that doesnt make sense because the Bears drafted Rex Grossman in the first round last year and have Chris Chandler and Jonathan Quinn.
Arizona is another rumored destination, but the Cardinals seem to fall into the situation in which theyll wait and see if Couch is released. Head coach Dennis Green just signed Shaun
