In Tennessee. ... Titans running back Eddie George separated his shoulder in Januarys playoff victory at Baltimore, but it was the ankle injury he suffered in that game that required surgery last week.
According to Nashville Tennessean staff writer Jim Wyatt, George traveled to Houston to have his left ankle examined by Dr. Tom Clanton, team orthopedist for the Texans. Once there, Clanton recommended George get the ankle scoped.
George, who also had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee at the end of the season, is getting around town in a protective boot. He is expected to wear the boot for at least two more weeks before starting rehab.
Head coach Jeff Fisher confirmed the news last night. He described Georges surgery as "minor" and said "it went great."
"It wasnt a break, it wasnt a fracture, it wasnt a tear or anything," Fisher said. "He just needed a 50,000-mile clean up. He needed it cleaned out, thats it. Its very common."
George injured the ankle on the first drive of Tennessees Wild Card victory against the Ravens on Jan. 3. He left the field limping. He also separated his left shoulder in the game but returned and finished the game.
George was limited in practice leading up to the AFC Divisional contest at New England the next week because of the injuries and the Titans thought the pain in the ankle would eventually go away.
But George, who rushed for 1,031 yards and five touchdowns in 2003, decided to have the ankle re-evaluated, when it was decided surgery would be the best option. ...
