How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

But Couch told AP sports writer Tom Withers that Withers he remains optimistic hell be able to work out a new deal and remain with the Browns.

"I still want to be here," Couch said after working out at the teams training facility. "I still want to be part of this organization. I still believe in my teammates here and believe they can get it done."

Couch said he knew Cleveland was interested in Garcia but didnt expect the Browns to make an offer.

"I was surprised a little, but I think if theyre definitely going to go with another guy, then Jeff is capable of coming in here and getting the job done," he said. ...

And a quick note related to both Owens and Garcia. ... Asked about the problems the controversial receiver caused in San Francisco last season Bob Garcia told Banks:

"Nobody ever had the [moxie] to step out and grab T.O. by the throat and say, Youre paid to be a receiver and catch the ball. Youre not paid to berate the coaches on the sideline. Youre not paid to sign autographs in the middle of the game. Youre not paid to try and call the plays and coach the quarterbacks.

"Nobody ever said, Damn it, play football. ..."

Also of interest today. ...

In New York. ... Curtis Conway was released by the New York Jets on Monday, three days after the team acquired Justin McCareins in a trade.

Conway signed with the Jets as a free agent last season and started 15 games. He had 46 catches for 640 yards and two touchdowns.

A first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears in 1993, Conway had
