How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

next year.

Upshaw said if the matter cant be resolved, the union will ask Stephen Burbank, who is in charge of settling disputes regarding the NFLs collective bargaining agreement, to have Owens contract voided so he can be declared a free agent.

But judging by his comments over the weekend, Owens seems to realize that his next catch could be in Baltimore.

"Im going to fight it to the end until I cant fight it anymore," Owens said in a Sunday interview with WCAU-TV, the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia. "This is not to disrespect the Ravens organization by any means. I just want a fair shot at my free agency.

"If it comes down to the point where I cant win, Ill be a Raven."

When asked what jersey he would be wearing on opening day, he said: "I dont know. Im really not sure at this point. I can picture [myself in the Eagles uniform], but at the same time, I can still picture me being in a Ravens uniform as well.

"I cant deny the fact they have a great thing going on in that organization, especially on the defensive side of the ball where Ray [Lewis] leads that team. Right now, theyre saying Kyle Boller is the starting quarterback. I havent even seen the guy play but I hear he has a strong arm."

And as Baltimore Sun staffer Jamison Hensley noted early Monday, the Boller-to-Owens connection is one that has been envisioned by the Ravens since last weeks trade. And attempts to void the deal havent changed their outlook.

"Based on the communication with the league and the union, were working under the assumption that the 49ers were within their rights [to trade Owens]," head coach Brian Billick said. "Were really just a bystander right now and well go along with whatever they determine."

If the trade is upheld, Owens has three choices: play under his current contract (which will pay him $5.3 million this season), renegotiate a new deal with the Ravens, or sit out the season (but the Ravens retain his rights).
