Following up on a previous report. ... According to the Associated Press, Tim Couch thought so little of the Browns proposal to cut his salary by more than half that he didnt respond to it. The Browns are expected to make a second proposal to couch.
The teams original offer would have cut Couchs salary from $7.6 million to $3 million in 2004 and from $8 million to $3.5 million in 2005. The package also reportedly included $3 million in bonuses and incentives tied to the teams record.
Earlier this week, Couch said he would be willing to take a pay cut -- to a point -- as long as he had assurances the money would be used to strengthen the team. ...
In Tennessee. ... In an article published Saturday, Nashville Tennessean staff writer Jim Wyatt noted that when linebacker Randall Godfrey was released last offseason, running back Eddie George said Godfrey was back-stabbed to a certain degree by the team.
Godfrey had agreed to a pay cut, only to be released a few months later.
Asked then if that would influence some of his contract decisions down the road, George said: I think it would. If you are a smart man you are going to think about that, definitely.
It appears George and his agents, Peter Schaffer and Lamont Smith, thought about it when the Titans approached the veteran running back about his contract recently.
The Titans wanted George to restructure his contract and his $4.25 million base salary for 2004, but were turned away. At one point, the Titans asked George to trim his salary closer to $1.5 million or $2 million.
General manager Floyd Reese said he expects to talk with George and his agents again in the coming
