How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

Although Ravens officials said they wished the trade could have gone smoother, they seem to believe this move will pan out.

"Hes got a new chance for a new beginning here," Billick said. "Hopefully, because of this unique circumstance, he doesnt put himself in a position where he doesnt have an opportunity to take advantage of it. ..."

For what its worth. ... An NFL official, speaking on the condition that he not be identified because of the sensitive nature of the proceedings, told Maske the league believed Thursdays trade of Owens from the 49ers to the Ravens was valid and there was no reason to overturn it.

Under the collective bargaining agreement, the special masters decision would be subject to review by U.S. District Judge David S. Doty, who oversees the NFLs collective bargaining agreement. A special-master case is a trial-like proceeding and differs from the usual grievance process, in which the parties present their cases to an arbitrator. ...
