How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

hed want for Owens, but the teams couldnt agree on a deal.

Then again, Baltimore officials had not been reticent about the idea of paying a No. 2 pick for Owens in trade for almost a week, so its possible that Donahue knew that was his ace in the hole all along.

"We thought we had something done, but I think the 49ers shopped it around and got something they liked better," an Eagles source told Banks. "There were some long faces around here."

Owens failed to become a free agent this week when he missed a deadline last month to void the final three seasons of his contract. His agent, David Joseph already filed a grievance with the NFL Management Council through the players union in an effort to resolve that matter.

In the meantime, Owens, while not going out of his way to insult folks in Baltimore, is making no secret of his unhappiness.

During a Friday appearance on Fox Sports Best Damn Sports Show Period, the mercurial receiver told viewers: "Right now, Terrell Owens is kind of unemployed at the moment. I dont have anything bad to say about Baltimore. And Baltimore was definitely one of my choices, but they werent high on the list. My priority was trying to get to the Eagles. We were a matter of minutes away from getting something done and thats when the 49ers and Donahue got wind of that and sent me to Baltimore."

Owens added: "Ive talked to [Baltimore GM] Ozzie [Newsome] a few times the last couple of days," Owens said. "Honestly, I didnt really feel comfortable with our conversation. He knows Im really not happy with the situation. Im going to stand my ground and see if we cant get something resolved.

"I want to go where I
