His receiving ability makes him difficult to defend.
During the Raiders run to the Super Bowl in 2002, Garner caught 91 passes for 941 yards. During each of the past five seasons, he has not caught fewer than the 48 receptions he had last year.
Portis rushed for 1,591 yards and caught 38 passes for 314 yards last season. During his rookie season in 2002, Portis rushed for 1,508 yards and caught 33 passes for 364 yards.
And finally, following up on an item first reported yesterday. ...
According to East Valley Tribune staffer Darren Urban, Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Graves did not completely dismiss reports on Wednesday that the Cards had discussed in some fashion a trade with Minnesota for Pro Bowl receiver Randy Moss.
But Graves was careful with his choice of words about a player unlikely to be moved, because of both the heavy price it would take to get Moss and Moss huge contract.
"Hes under contract to the Vikings," Graves said. "Let me just respond this way -- at this point, thats mostly rumor." Reports in both the St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Miami Herald indicated that talks between the Vikings and Dolphins for Moss included possible compensation, such as draft picks and certain players.
For the record, the Vikings continue to deny any interest in trading Moss away -- a sentiment the star receivers agent seems to be echoing.
"Randy just called me a half-hour ago," Moss agent, Dante DiTrapano told Minneapolis Star Tribune reporter Mark Craig Wednesday afternoon. "Hes down in Florida and hes been hearing all of the rumors. People are calling him and asking whats going on. So he called me.
"I told him the same thing Ive told everyone else: Its a joke. Theres absolutely nothing to it. Randy Moss will be playing for the Minnesota Vikings this fall."','3/4/2004 11:58:21 AM','11:58:21 AM','Thursday'3455,2004,1014
