How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

receiver around the league to find his market value and likely didnt come away with a long list of interested parties. The Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles have been the most-publicized candidates. The New York Jets and Miami Dolphins might also be interested.

According to Hensley, a deal with the Ravens might be pushed into next week since team officials presumably would want to visit with Owens to find a comfort level with him. There have been no negotiations between the Ravens and 49ers on what draft picks would be required to trigger a trade.

If the Eagles are willing to give up a first-round draft choice (28th overall) -- which is considered a long shot -- they would have the inside track for Owens. The Ravens dont have a pick in the first round because they traded up last year to draft quarterback Kyle Boller.

But if Philadelphia wants to hold onto its first-rounder, the Ravens would have the edge since they could offer a second-round selection (51st overall) that is seven spots higher than the Eagles pick (58th).

In an article published Wednesday, Sports Illustrated insider Don Banks suggested the Ravens, eager to give its 32nd-ranked passing game the big-play receiver it has really never had, would probably be willing to give up either a second or third-round pick this season for Owens.

Banks added: "[Agent David] Joseph, embarrassed by the mistake of wasting Owens free agency status, is desperate to get his client a new deal this year and save a little face in regards to his own reputation. The Ravens might just deduce that it would be better for them to negotiate now, gambling that Owens leverage and price tag will be higher next year if he has a big first season in Baltimore, rather than play hardball by making him fulfill the terms of a deal he thought he had voided. ..."

Meanwhile, the Ravens initiated contact with receiver Darrell Jackson on the first day of free agency.

Jackson had 68 catches for 1,137 yards and nine touchdowns for
