In Denver. ... Tight end Shannon Sharpe says he will make a decision by mid-April on whether he will retire or return for a 14th season.
Sharpe said Sunday it is important he tell coach Mike Shanahan soon in case the team wants to choose a tight end in the April 26-27 draft.
"This is totally different than last year because then there werent a lot of tight ends in the draft," Sharpe told Rocky Mountain News staff writer Lynn DeBruin. "With them having three picks in the first two rounds, I owe that to them to make a decision if they want to go in that direction."
The NFLs all-time leader in touchdowns, reception and yardage by a tight end noted he was sad to see close friend Keith Burns sign with Atlanta in the offseason. He also said his decision would have been easier had Dan Marino left CBS, leaving open a possible job as an NFL analyst.
Sharpe said the lure of winning another Super Bowl doesnt drive him, nor does adding to his NFL records.
