How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

insert in my shoe, and it helps support my arch when I walk.

"When I dont work out, but I do a lot of walking during the day, its sore at night."

Vick said he has no flexibility problems with his ankle, but hes still trying to rebuild the strength of his lower leg.

"Ive been getting treatment, and getting ice on it every day," he explained. "Thats something I wasnt doing in the offseason, which I was supposed to do. I just thought it was going to heal on its own, but it didnt."

Original estimates called for a recovery time of eight to 10 weeks, but Vick didnt hit the field until late in the third quarter of Atlantas Nov. 30 loss at Houston. He then started the final four games.

But Vick still contends he should have waited longer.

"I think I came back a little too early, man. I dont regret coming back, but I think it set me back a little bit as far as my rehab and all that," he said. "But its something I had to do. I had to do it for my team, and I had to do it for myself."

According to Winkeljohn, Vick often said he was unaware of the fuss about his rehabilitation last fall. But it now appears he was paying more attention than he let on.

"Even though everybody thought I was taking my time, and that I was taking my time because [the team] wasnt doing well, that was [untrue]," he said. "It was something nobody but me had to deal with. It drove me crazy, and it drove me to come back."

Neither team officials nor Vick expect his leg to cause him trouble this season. But Vick will make some changes, starting with his playing weight.

"Im at 210 [pounds] right now. I think I want to stay at 210. I feel quick. I think I can be elusive at this weight," he said. "The only thing is I dont know if I can take the hits at this weight. Ive been playing at 215, the year before I played at 220. Ill have to play smarter; thats the most important thing for me to do.

"I worked hard the last three years, but I think this year can be even better. I want to make the 2004 season my best yet."

Of course, Vicks health and the incoming coaching staffs strategies to keep
