Goodwin became expendable when the Vikings signed free agent Jermaine Wiggins and kept starter Jim Kleinsasser with a five-year contract. Minnesota also has a group of promising young players at that position, including Sean Berton, Richard Angulo and Steve Farmer.
Goodwin, a fourth-round draft pick by the Vikings in 1996, has played five of his eight NFL seasons with the Vikings. The other three were with the Miami Dolphins, from 1999-2001.

Hearst will become the first free-agent running back to visit the Broncos since the team traded Clinton Portis to Washington.
"Garrison has followed the situation there closely because one of his former teammates at Georgia did pretty well in Denver," said Hearsts agent, Pat Dye Jr. "It would be an attractive situation for him. Well see how the visit goes and take it from there."
The Broncos have kept in close contact with Hearst since free-agent signing period opened. One reason the team opted to bring him to Denver now is the market for free-agent running backs is drying up.
