How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

a rookie, he caught 10 passes for 87 yards and scored a touchdown while playing in 15 games primarily as a third wide receiver. He moved into the starting lineup for the first time during his second season in 2001 and has been a starter for Chicago over the last three seasons, starting 31 of the 45 games he has played.

He finished second on the team the past three years in receptions and yards to Pro Bowler Marty Booker. During that three-year span, he averaged 48 receptions and 556 yards a season.

A starter in 31 of 60 career games during his four NFL seasons, White enjoyed his best season in 2002 when he had career-bests in receptions (51), receiving yards (656) and touchdown receptions (4). In 2003, he had 49 catches for 583 yards with three touchdowns in 11 games started.

Whites career totals include 155 receptions for 1,754 yards and eight touchdowns.

"Our intent going into free agency was to try and add a veteran receiver who had started in the league to give us three," general manager Rich McKay said while introducing White at team headquarters. "We wanted three guys who had started in the league and played in the league. ... And between Brian [Finneran], Peerless [Price] and Dez, weve got our three.

Asked if he considered himself a starter, White replied: "Thats obviously my goal. If I didnt have the goal to start, then I really wouldnt consider myself a football player. If youre not playing to be on the field as much as possible, then you really shouldnt be here. Thats my purpose: to get on the field as much as possible.

"Of course, Im going to have to earn it and thats what Im looking forward to; I love competition. ..."

Whether he ultimately lines up as a starter or not, White is excited by the idea of working with Michael Vick and new offensive coordinator Greg Knapp.

"Thats really what excited me," he said of Knapps scheme. "Just watching how the system leaves it up to the receivers to go out
