How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

to tone down some of his antics.

"My character has definitely been an issue as far as whether Ill fit in or how I will mesh with the coaches and my teammates," Owens said. "Weve talked. I think this is a fresh start."

Asked if fans can expect to see some of his touchdown celebrations in Philadelphia, Owens smiled and looked at the stoic Reid.

"Coach said he liked the pompoms," Owens said, referring to when he grabbed pompoms from a cheerleader and did a cheer after a score. "Im just going to go out there and have fun. Theyre not going to hold any reins on me as far as my passion for the game and how I play the game."

Whatever the case, Reid obviously believes the potential rewards outweigh the risk associated with bringing Owens into the fold.

As Sports Illustrated senior writer Peter King suggested Tuesday: "I understand just what Reid is doing in taking Owens on. The coach realizes his offensive weapons scare no one, and he knows McNabb cant win a lot of games by himself, not with a less-than-mediocre 57-percent career completion percentage. Owens, if he can be the guy who gets to those McNabb jump balls downfield and can out-physical corners who are 30 pounds lighter, could be a great solution.

"Reid knows hell have to keep a close watch on Owens, and hes smart enough to not let him became an Allen Iverson. Im sure of that."

And make no mistake about it: Once you get past the celebrations, outrageous outbursts and other disruptive behavior, its hard to view this move as a tremendous gain for the Eagles.

The 30-year-old Owens is considered among the top four receivers in the NFL, along with Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison and Torry Holt. He finished the 2003 campaign with 80 catches for 1,102 yards and nine touchdowns. Eagles starting receivers Todd Pinkston and James Thrash combined for 85 catches for 1,133 yards and three touchdowns.

Its also worth noting that Reid has never had a wide receiver catch more than 63
