How much time does all this take?

The answer to this question depends in large part on just how competitive your league is and how much you want to "master" the game. But, generally speaking, you'll at least want to skim the NFL news once or twice per week to see if any of your players are injured, about to lose their job, etc. You will also need to go in and select a starting lineup once each week some time prior to kickoff of the first NFL game.

In the simplest leagues you can spend as little as 5-10 minutes per week on your team, while in highly competitive leagues you can spend hours scanning the services like the FootballDieHards.com, making trade proposals and speculating as to how your players will perform in the coming week.

staff writer Daniel Brown reported that during Mondays hearing, NFLPA lawyer Jeffrey Kessler argued that the receiver and Joseph had voided the remaining years of his 49ers contract in time to become a free agent.

As Kessler explained later: "The bottom line is that he was within the time period provided. Very simply, the language that changed certain players dates did not apply to his contract. Thats what the dispute is about."

Or as NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw put it, Owens "had negotiated beyond what anybody else had negotiated."

In other words, the issue widely believed to be at the heart of the situation -- whether Joseph had been properly notified of the new deadline -- was actually moot.

As a result, the parties were encouraged to reach a settlement. If Burbank ruled that Owens was a free agent, the Niners and Ravens would not have received compensation.

The next question is how Owens will fit into the Eagles offensive scheme, the locker room and perhaps more importantly, how hell get along with head coach Andy Reid -- a man known for his no-nonsense approach to the game?

But Owens seems to be making a concerted effort to set a new tone in Philly.

"This is a fresh beginning for me," Owens said as he sat between Reid and owner Jeffrey Lurie at his introductory news conference in Philadelphia. "I have a clean rap sheet right now, so to speak.

"I had some great years in San Francisco, but the last two, three years, honestly, there were some up-and-down times for me. But Ive been able to weather the storm. No matter what the situation was, no matter how bad a picture they wanted to paint of me, I feel like I always stood by what I had to say and I always came out on top."

"Its a nice addition to a good football team," Reid said. "To put him in the mix, it presents itself to be an explosive package."

According to Associated Press sports writer Rob Maaddi, Reid went out of his way to air his concerns with Owens, who promised
