to get his organization to the Super Bowl," Portis said.
While he remains willing to return to Denver with a new contract, Portis doesnt believe the Broncos want him long-term.
"Im not confident with nothing," he said. "I dont know whats going on. If Denver was going to sign me, we wouldnt be in this situation. Obviously, Denver feels they cant give me a new deal."
Portis also insisted he never used the word holdout when asked about his future with the Broncos and said there were no hard feelings.
"I never saw myself holding out," Portis said. "I dont look at the situation as I was betrayed. Its a business move."
After rushing for 1,508 yards as a rookie and 1,591 this past season, Portis thinks his success will transfer to a new location.
"This is my third year in the league," he said. "Its not a big deal relocating and learning a new system."
Also in Denver. ... As reported by Rocky Mountain News staffer Lynn DeBruin, Ed McCaffrey is weighing his future after meeting Friday with head coach Mike Shanahan.
After 13 NFL seasons, 565 career catches, three Super Bowl rings and more punishing shots than anyone deserves, one possibility is that hell choose retirement.
But another option would be to restructure his deal and stay with the Broncos, probably as the No. 3 wide receiver.
"Ed is, due to the concussions and injuries, trying to decide if he still wants to play and will try to figure that out pretty fast," agent Marvin Demoff said Friday afternoon.
"Hes thinking about things over the weekend."
Demoff said he believes McCaffrey is leaning one way but wouldnt announce his decision until Monday.
"If he wants to come back, Mike wants him back. Its Eds decision whether he wants to come back or retire," Demoff said. "One decision Ed has made is that he doesnt want to play anywhere else."
McCaffrey, who is scheduled to earn $4.5 million in 2004, did not play in Denvers wild-card loss to Indianapolis after suffering two concussions in a three-week period.
