In an article published Saturday, St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat man Jim Thomas advised readers that agent Mark Bartelstein emerged from a lengthy Friday meeting with team officials encouraged that his client, Kurt Warner, would be back with the Rams next season.
"Theyve certainly given us every indication that Kurts going to be back, and have a fresh start," the agent said. "We had a long talk today. We had a good meeting."
Bartelstein said the club has indicated it will pay a $1.25 million roster bonus due Warner on March 3. Before paying out a $6 million bonus last offseason, the Rams asked Warner to undergo a complete physical and medical examination.
That has not been the case this year, despite continuing speculation that Warners throwing thumb isnt quite right.
"Kurts as healthy as can be," Bartelstein said. "He has no battle scars. ..."
According to Washington Post staffer Nunyo Demasio, the Redskins are interested in Jim Kleinsasser, an unrestricted free agent, considered one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL. Last season, Kleinsasser earned about $3 million, and the Minnesota Vikings say they can no longer afford him. ...
Chargers general manager A.J. Smith told reporters on Thursday that even with Doug Flutie and Drew Brees on the roster, the team is looking to upgrade at quarterback, possibly by using the No. 1 pick.
