According to Associated Press sports writer Michael Marot, the Dolphins and Eagles were working on a trade Saturday night that would send reserve quarterback A.J. Feeley to Miami.
Miami head coach Dave Wannstedt confirmed the trade talks, but said no agreement had been made.
"All we can say is no trade has been made," he said at the combine. "We are talking to Philadelphia and were in the midst of talks."
As noted above, no deals can be made official until the offseason trading period begins Mar. 3, but reports of the deal were widespread in both the Miami and Philadelphia-area media early Sunday.
The Eagles would reportedly receive an undisclosed draft pick in 2005 in exchange for Feeley.
Feeley, a restricted free agent, served as Philadelphias third-string quarterback last season behind Donovan McNabb and Koy Detmer.
A 2001 fifth-round draft choice from Oregon, Feeley showed promise in his second season when he won four consecutive games while McNabb and Detmer were sidelined with injuries.
The Dolphins are trying to upgrade the quarterback position, which hasnt been the same since Dan Marino retired after the 1999 season.
Jay Fiedler and Brian Griese split time last season, but both could be gone this season.
Fiedler is due a $2 million option in April, and his projected base salary for 2004 is $3.7 million if he returns. Griese also is likely to be released for financial reasons. The second year of his contract would cost Miami more than $6 million in salary cap space.
