running back. He stands to collect $6.8 million as Washingtons franchise player, a figure that would vanish from the payroll if Bailey were traded.
According to Washington Times staffer Mark Zuckerman, Baileys agent, Jack Reale, said hes ready to strike a deal with any of the four to six teams he has met with this weekend and now must wait for the Redskins to work out the parameters of a trade.
"I think we could be finished in a couple hours," Reale said. "Its really up to the [Redskins], what theyre trying to do and what they feel they can get in return."
But why would the Seahawks trade a 26-year-old runner as talented as Alexander and with no history of injuries?
Sando suggests the fact that Alexander is entering the final year of his contract with Seattle -- and the odds of returning in 2005 seem slim, could be reason enough -- especially if they get the NFLs best cover corner in return.
And as Sando further noted, Alexander covets a stage bigger than Seattle currently offers -- an issue Washington is more than qualified to address. There is also reason to believe the former first-round draft pick would prefer playing in an offense centered on his running skills rather than Mike Holmgrens pass-oriented attack.
"Everybody says, even myself, that I need 25 carries to be at my best," Alexander once said.
"Without tooting my horn or being arrogant about it, Ive been blessed to make plays with less than 25 carries. But I still believe if I have 25 carries, its going to be crazy."
Gibbs offense would all but guarantee Alexander those carries.
As for Washington? Well, its seems pretty obvious. ... The big question, of course, is: How realistic would such a trade be?
According to Sando: "On the surface, Alexander appears to be precisely the kind of marquee player Redskins owner Daniel Snyder cant resist.
"Would the Seahawks explore such a trade? A chance to land Bailey would surely pique their interest, particularly because Alexander is probably gone in 2005
