recovering from a broken leg suffered in the Senior Bowl, is hoping to get at least a few plays Sunday at Kansas City.
"[Wednesday] I got a lot more reps than I ever have before," Pinner said. "Probably like 15 plays today. I was excited and nervous at the same time but, yeah, I got a lot of work with the varsity today."
He was even busier Thursday.
"He took every nine-on-seven snap," head coach Steve Mariucci said after Thursdays workout was over. "He showed some burst today. Hes just getting better. Hes practicing more and hes feeling a little bit more comfortable. Rome wasnt built in a day, theres still a lot of time. Right now were on course to have him play a little bit this weekend. We just have to determine whose place hes going to take as far as the actives are concerned but he had a better practice. This was his best practice."
Mariucci said he will wait until later in the week -- possibly Saturday -- to decide whether Pinner will play against the Chiefs, but he definitely wants to get a look at his rookie running back before the end of the season.
Although he was not permitted to practice with the team while on the reserve/non-football injury list through the first half of the season, nobody worked harder observing, taking notes and learning the offense than Pinner.
As he found out last month when he started getting a few reps with the starting offense, however, classroom knowledge doesnt always translate into immediate on-field know-how.
"Its totally different," Pinner said. "Me taking notes and writing down all the plays, I could sit down and tell you what to do. Once youre in that huddle and [Harrington] spits out a play, I mean, it sounds like a foreign language.
"Youre like, OK, I know what to do, Ive got to do it. But you dont have that much time to recite and think about everything you have to do. You have to know it, just like that. And reps help a lot on that part."
The Lions are hoping Pinner can give them some of the same explosion he showed at Kentucky in his senior season, when he gained 1,414 yards and scored
