From the Eagles perspective, this could shape up as a Duce Staley game. Staley is the most experienced, sure-handed member of the teams three-man rotation at halfback.
"All three of us can play in that kind of weather," Staley was quick to assert, sticking to the script approved by head coach Andy Reid. "Conditions are going to be tough. Its all about making sure you have the right kind of shoe on. But I enjoy playing in weather like this."
Staley prides himself on toughness; you might have seen him out there in sleet and rain in that Monday night game at Green Bay, digging and snorting, holding on to the ball, with no long sleeves.
"No sleeves," Staley said yesterday. "Its hard to hold the ball when you have sleeves. But its just my mentality. ... When the elements are involved, I just feel like the defense is at my mercy."
Staley said he feels getting off to a strong start and controlling the ball will be keys to the game.
Reid acknowledged that "certain guys have been very good in these types of conditions," but he didnt name any of them.
Reid said yesterday his main concern about the weather and the field is that his players not be concerned about it.
"A fields a field, both teams have to play on it," Reid said. "You cant let it be a distraction."

As reported by Associated Press sports writer Rob Maaddi, Akers -- a two-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro -- enters todays game as the second-most accurate kicker in NFL history behind Indianapolis Mike Vanderjagt. Hes made 107 of 128 field-goal tries (83.6 percent), including 19 of 22 attempts this season.
